![]() American rapper Flo Rida, born Tramar Dillon in Florida, got started in the 1990's and early 2000's touring with 2 Live Crew and being featured on numerous popular mixtapes. Using his resulting popularity, particularly after his inclusion in the hit single "We The Best", he released his solo debut album, 'Mail on Sunday' in 2008. The album included the single "Low" which featured popular artist T-Pain and spent ten weeks at the #1 single spot on Top Charts. After collaborating on several other popular albums, including Lady Gaga's debut, he promptly released his much-hyped second album "R.O.O.T.S." in 2009, which included hit singles "Sugar" and "Right Round," which topped the charts again for 6 weeks straight. While in 2008, Flo Rida found himself nominated for nearly every major Hip-hop and Rap industry award for singles and new artists, his only major win to date was at the 2009 People's Choice Awards for "Low" as the "Favorite Hip-Hop Song" in America. As he continues to release and collaborate on chart-topping songs and gain momentum across the music landscape, his trophy mantle should fill up pretty quick. Read more about Flo Rida |
Dubbed an Atlanta supergroup by locals, The Constellations officially formed when vocalist Elijah Jones and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Devin Donnelly teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Ben H. Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley) to create Southern Gothic. Jones and Donnelly, who worked together formerly in Vin Corejo and Gates of Berlin, tossed ideas around for two years before finally recording. Now the band and its ever-changing line-up of Atlanta musicians is playing sold out shows in Atlanta’s most popular venues, from the Earl, Star Bar, Lenny’s, the Drunken Unicorn, and even Athens’ the 40 Watt. Recorded at Maze Studios, Southern Gothic (?Make Records Not Bombs?, 2008) is a meandering tour of the underbelly of Atlanta, lead by Jones’ gruff delivery and parabolic lyrics. Lush production invokes the muscular rhythms of ‘70s Fela Kuti, the propelling pop sensibility of the Gorillaz and the vocals of a modern-day Tom Waits. Cee Lo of Gnarls Barkley and newly signed SRC artist Asher Roth are featured on the album, with a revision of Tom Waits’ “Step Right Up” as a centerpiece. Also on the album are Atlanta musicians Brand Hagen (Trances Arc) and Julian Dorio (The Whigs). Read more about The Constellations |
